AMY Review

AMY is a third person Horror survival game from  French developers Lexis Numerique, but is it as good as we hoped? Absolutely not.

When people say survival horror, as a gamer I think of “Resident Evil” and Silent Hill.  AMY tries to be a mixture of both but it fails HARD!!!

Story wise, I don’t really know what’s going on.  You play as Lana who I am guessing is a carer for AMY, a young autistic girl that cannot talk and therefore communicates through drawings and body language.

This brings me onto another subject….. So if AMY is going to communicate through body language and drawings, you would hope that graphically the game was amazing and clear but it’s not.  The cut-scenes are grainy and dark with very choppy movements and this makes it awkward to watch.

In between each chapter you are played comic panel cut scenes with full voice narration.  These are quite nice and possibly the best thing about the game.

Graphically the game is ok but nothing special.  I would have thought that after the past couple of years of brilliant well designed games, Lexis Numerique would have to upped their game but they did not.  This is a shame because if it looked that little bit nicer the game might have been a little more bearable.

The controls are similar to most third person survival games and by this I mean a little clunky and not very fluid at all.  To add to this AMY follows you everywhere and often helps you throughout your travels but this comes with annoyance.

You pretty much have to constantly hold AMY’s hand by pressing RB otherwise she will wonder off and be more of a hindrance than a help.

Overall AMY tried to be great but failed bad.  Bad graphics, bad story, bad controls and an absolute cliché heaven.

Download the trial first to avoid possible disappointment.
