Burnout Crash Review
Burnout Crash is a top down version of the popular “Crash Mode” that was brought to you 6 years ago by Criterion games. Giving the player a large selection of cars, 18 different intersections and 3 different game modes that evolve around causing damage, there is fun to be had.
The top down view gives the player the ability to see car movements, Explosives, buildings and special vehicles. This is a nice feature because you are able to plan your attack and work out the best after touch route to cause the most damage.
Using aftertouch is the only way to get huge multipliers and the best explosions. Crash your vehicle and fill up the Crashbreaker meter, tap A and control the direction of your exploding vehicle in order to block intersections, hit buildings and cause mass destruction.
The idea of the game is to drive your car into busy intersections, crash into vehicles and buildings whilst trying to cause as much damage as possible. The game is one of those that makes you think “One more go and I’ll turn it off” to then find yourself looking at the clock and seeing that an hour or two has passed. This brings me on to re-playability. With autolog and the “I will better my score” mentality there is loads of fun hours to be had.
There are environmental and special vehicle hazards that can help you make a mess of the roads and their surroundings but to gain access to these you need to rack up big points. Get the points required and you will be rewarded with a little help such as blizzard storm which makes the road icy, meteor strike that brutally smashes the map and a plane crash. You will also encounter random vehicles that make their way through your path and either help you or ruin you. Bad cops will arrest you, good cops will block a road, petrol tanker will explode and wipe out its surroundings and an ambulance will give you a life back if you have let a car pass you (Rush Hour Mode).
These environmental and special vehicles give the game a fresh and fun feel and are a relief during the harder levels.
Burnout Crash issue stars at the end of each of the 54 levels based on objectives hit and score. As you can imagine, the stars are not easy to get and at times can be frustrating. Although the game does not have the “throw your controller” annoyances, you will at times have to have a break. Getting 5 stars on every level will become a chore eventually but I do believe that after a week/month you will be back on it trying again.
As usual the soundtrack is brilliant with songs such as Gold by Spandau Ballet and Push it by Salt and Peppa. The music fits the game well and kicks in just at the right time.
If you want a fun fuelled game with lots of re-playability and colourful surroundings that can be obliterated, you should definitely get this game.
