Choplifter HD Review
Story
You are the new pilot of an elite helicopter rescue team and the worlds best at that. Your missions are to rescue hostages, extract stranded news reporters and eliminate the enemy forces that stand in your path.
Gameplay/controls
Choplifter HD has a great training mode to help you get to grips with flying the choppers and rescuing people before pushing you out into the real world. The training only lasts for 3-4 levels but it’s very thorough and is easy to follow.
As mentioned above, your missions consist of rescuing and eliminating. There are many different and fresh areas to fly around but to be honest, constantly carrying out the same actions gets a little tedious.

To mix things up a bit you are sometimes required to rescue the injured under a time scale and if you don’t rescue them in time you fail the mission and have to start again. This gives the game slightly more diversity but again, you can only enjoy it for so long.

You will also have to deal with the odd zombie situation but we expect this nowadays with everyone going zombie crazy but this doesn’t add much to the game and wouldn't be missed if it wasn't there.

At the end of each mission you are awarded stars up to a maximum of 5. Earning stars unlocks new helicopters with more firepower, more space to carry passengers, more speed and stronger armour. You can unlock some great looking vehicles and you do definitely feel the difference when flying each one.

The controls are that of your typical twin stick shooter. left analogue = movement, right analogue = aim, left trigger = secondary weapon and right trigger = primary weapon. The controls are so simple you can just play the game and forget about what your hands are doing because it will all come naturally.

Visuals

Visually the game looks very good. Choplifter HD is a side-scroller so the best looking part of the game is at the back. Back grounds look brilliant and the areas that you can destroy and fly through look pretty good compared to the current arcade titles.

Overall

Choplifter HD is definitely a good game and with nothing else like it on the arcade at the moment it’s worth trying.

At times Choplifter HD gets repetitive and boring but after a short while you can pick it up again and crack on with the next mission.

7/10
