Defenders of Ardania Review
Defenders of Ardania is a tower defence game with a hint of RTS.
Story
Set in a fantasy world DOA sets you the task of defending your tower(s) whilst trying to attack and capture the enemies.
Gameplay/Controls
Like every tower defence game your job is to protect your building from swarms of enemies and in order to do so you will need to set up towers. Towers vary from ballistic crossbows to burning crystals which can be upgraded with money earned.
Where DOA is different from other tower defence games is the added RTS feature. Once you feel that your towers are doing a great job of protecting your building you are able to send out units to capture the enemy fortress. There are different types of units from archers to flying soldiers and healers to tower destroyers.
The RTS addition adds a cool twist to the average tower defence game but still DOA isn’t for me.
Honestly, DOA does everything you want a tower defence game to do and more but it is better set to tablet pc’s. DOA is probably the most boring game I have ever played. Enemies are slow even though you can speed them up and the towers are not exciting in the slightest.
I thought that playing online would be better but NO!!! DOA online is either survival, free for all or team deathmatch and again this slow paced boring game is painful to play.
Visuals
Visually DOA looks ok but it’s obvious that the game was ported and it feels like that was done half-heartedly. Yes the scenes fit the fantasy style but none of them stand out with such force that I would remember them.
Overall
DOA didn’t amaze me in the slightest especially when I have played brilliant tower defence games such as Dungeon Defenders and South Park.
I think charging 1200msp for DOA is robbery. There is no way this game is worth anymore than 400msp. If you like tower defence games buy Dungeon Defenders because that is a game worthy of your money.
