Farming Simulator 14 Review
Unless you’re a farmer or closely related to a farmer, it’s hard to appreciate just how hard their work is. Personally, I am not a farmer nor am I related to one which means I am not familiar with their tools or work ethic. Farming simulator tries to get you to understand the role so that you can be a successful and efficient farmer.
The screen-layout for on the 3DS works brilliantly with the top screen being your farm town and gameplay and the bottom a map. The map is interactive and allows you to search for the best places to sell your produce, fields for sale and vehicle(s) and their attachments. Also, if you’re given a side-quest by the villagers you are able to see the route on the map so that you don’t get lost.
Farming simulator starts off really hard because it offers next to no guidance. You are literally left in the middle of a farming town and are told to “do this” and “do that” but don’t actually tell you how to do it. Hopefully your common sense will guide you.
Grab a combine harvester, take up the wheat and prepare it for selling or storing – prepare the land with the correct vehicle and attachment for sowing, sow the seeds and rinse and repeat. Be careful, if you don’t harvest the crops within the correct time frame they will start to perish!
Farming Simulator is very slow paced, so if you find yourself getting a little bored you can turn on auto-farmer. Auto-farmer allows you to watch the land being farmed so that you can take a break from what can be a tedious task – it works great and is usually much better than you at completing the job.
Cultivating a mixture of crops is the direction that you need to head in and selling at the maximum price is the obvious goal. Earn enough money and you are able to buy more fields which then allow you to grow more crops and/or animals. After a while you’ll have a farm town full of animals and crops constantly needing to be tended to and with you become rich.
Overall Farming Simulator is actually a pretty good game if you have the patience to stick it out. It’s one of them game types that get a lot of attention on social network sites and has a real sense of achievement, but the lack of any guidance could stop a lot of people from seeing what a great Farming Simulator can be. As a handheld title Farming Simulator is great for those long journeys on public transport. However, I’m not sure that I’d choose it as my “game of choice” whilst relaxing at home.
