Gotham City Imposters Review

Gotham City Imposters is an online first person shooter but is it able to compete with the big guys?

Gotham City Imposters allows you to become a vigilante who clearly has a soft spot for the Batman series. In this strange fan based world you will be part of Jokers force or  Batman’s force but overall you all do the same thing, you just look different.

There are 3 game modes to choose from which are Team Deathmatch, Fumigation, and Psych Warfare.  Team Deathmatch is what it says in the title, Fumigation is the similar to COD’s Domination and Psych Warfare is similar to COD’s Sabotage.  These are great game modes and suit the maps well.

The maps…. There are only 5 maps but each are colourful and very well made.  You will constantly have to have your wits about you because enemies can be above, below or on the same level as you. Thanks to all the different gadgets you have at your disposal you can get pretty much anywhere.

Customisation is HUGE!!! You are able to level up and unlock guns, mods, gadgets, camo, clothing, calling cards (Emblems) and lots more but to unlock these items you better get lots of XP and spend wisely!!!.  Customisation gives the game so much diversity and you will probably never see the same kitted out enemy twice.

2 things that annoy me are… 1) There is far too much to buy on the Black Market (Xbox live DLC) to the extent that it feels like it’s all about the shop rather than a game.  I appreciate that some people might want a couple of bits for whatever reason but at least £100 worth of stuff can be bought here. 2) The matchmaking is slow and at times annoying because it constantly switches you between teams during your stay in the lobby BUT, The buying is optional and can be avoided and the matchmaking can be sorted with a patch, it’s just a shame Monolith didn’t spend more time on the matchmaking rather than making pointless crap that they're trying to sell on.

To me Gotham City Imposters is graphically similar to Homefront which is a good thing and gameplay wise similar to Call of Duty with the button layout being the same which is brilliant. The main selling point for this game are dedicated servers which after many years Activision still refuse to give COD players, customization which is huge but at times overwhelming and gadgets.

Overall the gameplay is smooth and the idea is great.  I don’t see myself totally giving up on COD to play this but it definitely will be played by myself for some time.

GCI Very fun and worth a trial download at least.

8/10
