Sega Bass Fishing Review

Sega Bass Fishing is a Dreamcast classic that has now made its way to XBLA and although I did love it, things have moved on!

Originally on Dreamcast and in your local arcade Sega Bass Fishing brought you great fishing and the added coolness of a reel controller.  Now we are forced to use a normal controller and given the original visuals Which are still pretty good but nothing else.

When I heard this was coming to XBLA I was a little excited but also a little nervous for Sega.  We often get a lot of re-released games on XBLA and although it can be great, it often reminds me of how far we have now come in gaming development.

The gameplay is shoddy and hard to get on with.  At the very beginning of the game you can choose what type of game mode to play ie arcade, training or competition but actually getting down to things is tough.

The controls feel like they are where they should be but catching fish is a chore.  Choose your desired lake, some of which some are lovely, Choose your lure and go get fish…right? Wrong!!  I don’t know whether it was me, my lure or the fish being stubborn but I could not get into this game like I used to.

If you are going to release an old game I feel that something new should be added like Sega did with Guardian Heroes but this honestly feels like it was thrown out for a bit of cash.

By it if you absolutely loved the original and are a hardcore fishing fan but if not wait for the price to drop.

3/10
