The Wolf Among Us, Episode 1 - Faith
Following its success of The Walking Dead game, Telltale games is now pulling you back in for another run of point-and-click storytelling and this time in the way of The Book of Fables.
Similar to Telltales’ version of The Walking Dead, you will be face with cel-shade graphics, strange and wonderful characters and a decent story that will try to keep you engrossed for the duration of the series episodes.
You’re a tired, run down, overworked detective known as Bigby. You live and work in a sleazy New York style area named Fabletown, A place where fairy-tale characters can live amongst the humans under a spell named Glamour. Glamour turns these creatures into what we would recognise as regular humans so that they can live freely without any questions being asked.
The problem is, these Fables seem to be interested in committing crime or being around crime when it happens but they don’t like to talk about it… Yep, making your job even harder. Littered streets, shabby looking apartments and dodgy looking characters with bad attitudes that don’t want to talk to you is a great setting and in my imagination seems to be a great story but it’s no ‘The Walking Dead’.
So, The Wolf Among Us is about fables which means you will meet some interesting characters. Badger and the Toad, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, Beauty and the Beast, Snow White etc…. that all carry some baggage. Bigsby shares his place with Colin, one of the three little pigs because he feels bad for blowing down their house and Bigsby alsohas a little bit of a problem with the woodsman who once saved little red riding hood from his evil little claws. All of this should add to what could be a brilliant games but to be honest I got bored and actually started to dose of owards the end.
There are some new features that are greatly welcomed to Telltales point-and-click game in the way of RT to walk faster (thank goodness) and an inverted camera option for those that might want to make the camera do strange things. I personally don’t use the inverted camera option but I was spamming that RT button so that I could get around quicker and I loved it. Apart from that, you will be very familiar with how the game plays if you were one of those who played the better point-and-click The Walking Dead.
The Wolf Among Us should definitely be played by fans of the comics and/or fans of telltales unique style but to be honest, I’m not sure everyone will be impressed.
7/10
